Event Three: Sharelle McMahon

Main Speaker: Sharelle McMahon

Vice Captain Australian Netball Team

Netballer Sharelle McMahon became a household name on October 2, 1999 when she shot the winning goal for Australia to defeat New Zealand in the dying seconds of the World Netball championships Grand Final.
New Zealand looked to have the match won when they led by six at three-quarter time.

This was the second time in a major game that the then youngest member of the Australian team, performed a sporting miracle under pressure.
The other was in her first Test Match when she was just 20 years of age. Sharelle was put on at half-time in the decider of a three-match Test Series against Jamaica in the 1988 Caribbean Tour, with Australia down by two.

To add further pressure, she had to replace Australian Captain Vicki Wilson. Sharelle was brilliant, shooting 18 goals from 22 attempts and was prominent in Australia's win, again by one goal.
Sharelle first caught the eye of national selectors in 1996 with a spectacular performance in the Victorian Under 21 team, which won the Qantas nationals.

She was chosen in the Australian Under 21 team the following month.
She remained in the under 21 team in 1997 and was a member of the Melbourne Phoenix team, which won the inaugural Commonwealth Bank Trophy in 1997 and again won the trophy in 2000.

Sharelle was a member of Melbourne Phoenix when they won the Commonwealth Bank Trophy for a record third time in the six year old competition.

In 1998 she was the youngest member of the Australian team which won the inaugural netball gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.

In 2002, Sharelle was again a member of the Australian team when it successfully defended its Commonwealth Games title in Manchester.

She was also a panelist on The Fat and Tony Squires 110%.

Guest Speaker: Peter Hudson - AFL Legend

Born on the 19th February 1946 Peter Hudson was a freakish full-forward who just kept accumulating goals.
He made brilliant use of the body, was deadly accurate and had an amazing ability to read the play.

Peter was inducted as a 'Legend' into the AFL Hall of Fame.
